Year 6

Welcome to Year 6!

The class teachers for 2022/2023 are as follows:

6B – Mr Baynes

6C – Miss Cook

Here you can find examples of some of the fantastic things our children have achieved in school. We follow a broad and balanced curriculum and the Woodley CARE values underpin all that we do.

Being secondary ready is a big part of Year 6 and we aim to make all our children feel confident, resilient, independent and excited about this next step. Of course, having fun is also a large part of Year 6 and we hope to make it an unforgettable year for everyone!

Homework in Year 6 consists of:

  • 5 games on Spelling Shed. New spellings are set each Tuesday and tested each Monday

  • 5 minutes on Times Tables Rockstars per day. New battles are set each week.

  • Reading out loud to an adult at least 3 times per week. Please ensure an adult signs your child’s reading record.

For each piece of homework completed, children are rewarded a Dojo Point. Certificates for reading, spelling and Times Tables Rockstars are also awarded for exceptional effort or learning in each Friday assembly.

Banksy – art or vandalism?

Over the past few weeks, we have been looking at the artist Banksy and discussing whether his work is art or vandalism. Below are two of our students arguing their case. Who do you agree with?

After finding out more about Banksy, we have then started to look at how to be creative with our own graffiti artwork. We have used instructional videos to design and create our names in graffiti. Which one do you think stands out the most?

Commando Joe’s

In line with our history topic (the wars), we have been looking at how Nancy Wake’s work impacted WW2. Nancy Wake was a Special Operations Executive whose expertise in espionage helped allied airmen evade capture.  Her confidence and resilience helped with her success and these are some of skills we have been working on during our sessions.

Alma – suspense writing

Our first unit of writing has focused on how to write using suspense. We have used a short film clip to inspire us in planning and writing our own suspense stories.  Throughout our writing, we have used ambitious vocabulary and aimed high with the content of our writing through various sentence types. Take a look at some of our amazing stories!
