Year 6

Welcome to Year 6!

The class teachers for 2020/2021 are as follows:

6S – Mrs Stepto

6W – Miss Woodward

Here you can find examples of some of the fantastic things our children have achieved in school. We follow a broad and balanced curriculum, as you can see by our long term plan, and the Woodley CARE values underpin all that we do.
We know that every year of primary school is vital, and Year 6 especially so as the children prepare for the next stage of their education and their transition to secondary school. Being secondary ready is a big part of Year 6 and we aim to make all our children feel confident, resilient, independent and excited about this next step. Of course, having fun is also a large part of Year 6 and we hope to make it a year to remember for our children.

As part of our World Book Day celebrations, children in Year 6 created reviews of some of their favourite books. Some children chose to make this into a video

Children in Year 6 have been enjoying reading Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. In the book, they have learnt a little about the Japanese artist, Hokusai. They spent some time exploring his work and then had a go at recreating his style using water colours or pencil crayons. This was a lovely, calm, purposeful activity where they were able to show their creativity and ambition.
Here are some photos of the art session in progress…examples of the finished pieces will follow!
Since September, Year 6 have had cricket lessons for PE with Scott from Cheshire Cricket Club. They have been working on developing their fielding skills, batting skills, teamwork, confidence and tactics! Although the weather usually decides to rain on us, we have all enjoyed the opportunity to take part in these lessons and get outside! It has been great to see their skills improve so much!
