Year 2

Welcome to Year 2!

The class teachers for 2022/2023 are as follows:

2P – Mrs Parkhouse

2G – Miss Greenhalgh

We hope you enjoy seeing all the wonderful learning we get up to in Year 2! We teach a broad and balanced curriculum and our Woodley CARE values are at the core of everything we do. We all enjoy taking part in creative lessons which challenge our resilience and encourage everyone to aim high whilst being responsible and respectful individuals. We hope this page provides an opportunity for you to see our children enjoying their learning and feeling confident in what they do whilst putting the CARE values into action.

Homework in Year 2 consists of:

  • 5 games on Spelling Shed. New spellings are set each Thursday and tested each Thursday.

  • 5 minutes on Numbots per day.

  • Reading out loud to an adult at least 3 times per week. Please ensure an adult signs your child’s reading record.

Logins for both Numbots and Spelling Shed are in the front of your child’s reading record.

For each piece of homework completed, children are rewarded a Dojo Point. Certificates for reading are also awarded for exceptional effort or learning, in each Friday assembly.

During the autumn term, Year 2 have been taking part in Commando Joe’s, exploring a range of team building activities that have tested our resilience, communication and creativity.

We had a special delivery arrive with a variety of different clues that later revealed our English unit would be Jack and the Beanstalk. Linking with our science unit all about plants, we have planted our own beanstalks. Our challenge now is to look after them and watch them grow.

To celebrate Black History Month this October, we will be researching Claudette Colvin and seeing how she made a lasting impact. Her story isn’t as well-known as Rosa parks but happened 9 months before.
