Year 1

Welcome to Year 1!

The class teachers for 2022/2023 are as follows:

1P – Mrs Pannett

1O – Mrs O’Dowda

We hope you enjoy seeing some of the fantastic activities we get up to in class. Our priority is to develop a love of learning through exciting and enjoyable experiences. We want every child to be successful; to ‘reach for the stars’ and embed our CARE values, which are at the core of everything we do. We encourage all children to be ambitious and aim high whilst being responsible and respectful individuals. We aim to help them to feel confident, creative and resilient in their learning, with an understanding that everyone matters. Please see below a range of activities we have enjoyed so far.

Homework in Year 1 consists of:

  • 5 games on Spelling Shed. New spellings are set each Monday and tested each Monday.

  • 5 minutes on Numbots per day.

  • Reading out loud to an adult at least 3 times per week. Please ensure an adult signs your child’s reading record.

Logins for both Numbots and Spelling Shed are in the front of your child’s reading record.

For each piece of homework completed, children are rewarded a Dojo Point. Certificates for reading are also awarded for exceptional effort or learning, in each Friday assembly.

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

Year 1 have been busy trying to find a missing bear. We had to search high and low through long, wavy grass and thick, oozy mud. We couldn’t go over it and we couldn’t go under it so we had to go through it!

Unfortunately, a little visitor has made a few mistakes in our classroom. Naughty Bus is his name and he has most definitely been up to no good. He made such a mess of our classroom and then we had to search for him following a map he left for us because he managed to escape outside!
